Runs really rough when cold.
Cuts out at junctions etc until warm.
Runs rough even when warm.
Splutters under acceleration and when under load.

I know the exhaust has a hole in it which is getting bigger but could any of the above be due to that?

the cutting out and spluttering could be yer points either dirty or worn - just give a clean and see if that makes any difference.

One of my bugs used to suffer from icing on the manifold below the carb. cured it by fitting one of those early 90's "imdu" inlet manifold jacket thingys, had a current running through it to kee the manifold warm.

Dunno if theyt still make them.

in the cold it cuts out i had a problem like that even when worm it does it.i just got it down 2 2 valves wer tight and one was slack so bad fuel consumption and tappit noise.

Just checked the points..........NO GAP!!!!!

Sorted the points and good as new LOL.

The IMDU i have fitted is a good investment too.

thought about leccy ignition mate? fit and generally forget.
